ASV - From the families - my boy is back
Addictions have a lot of complicated reasons behind them. Drugs, alcohol, nicotine and gambling are addictive habits that can provide feelings of physical and mental pleasure - often leading to an uncontrollable urge for more. Withdrawal symptoms or 'come downs' occur when the substance isn't present; this makes it easier to feel like you need those substances to keep up with the cravings which keep fueling their use until they become out-of-control addictions. - ASV 2023

Thank you, ASV
Five months ago, my dear son transitioned overnight from utter despair, self-sabotage and self-loathing (due to a 3-year Ice addiction following a 10-year grip on heroin) to a new life of fresh prospect, hope, health and enthusiasm through a sober life. Most importantly, with his professional, personal and unique take on addiction recovery, Jason Bowman of Addictions Solutions Victoria mentored my son to turn his life around. In short…a brilliant metamorphosis!
Jason worked one on one with him daily through his rehab at home outpatient rehab in Melbourne.
32 now, with self-esteem, confidence and self-awareness growing every day, my son is working, moving into an independent lifestyle for the first time and is looking forward to pursuing his music dreams again.
As he said the other day, my son is now 'dedicated' to the ASV program, the 12 Steps lifestyle, philosophy and fellowship and the all-so-important social connectedness he avoided for so long. I know now he values himself from the core and his higher power, but most of all - he is comfortable becoming his authentic self. And this, from a mother's perspective, no matter the age, is a gift like no other.
I thank you, Jason, for your dedication and belief in my son and his new life turnaround.
Mum.
Recovery from addiction is possible. - a lived experience from Sam (Son)
If you or a loved one are impacted by addiction, you should know that recovering from addiction is a process. It's never an easy road, but it can be done with the proper support and guidance.
Imagine your life without drugs or alcohol—how great would that feel? The journey out of addiction takes time and patience.
It's always hard to admit you have a problem, but finding solutions can be even more challenging. The journey out of addiction is long and arduous. It's essential for those struggling with addiction to know that they are not alone in their struggle—there is hope!
When a person realises they have an issue with problematic substance use, it's time to find some acceptance regarding the reality of their position and reach out for professional assistance. This can be the most challenging step, but it is also the most important one. After admitting that there is a problem, it's time to seek out professional help.
The next step is to commit to recovery. This means that you are dedicated to making changes in your life and putting in the hard work it takes to improve. Recovery is not a quick fix; it's a lifelong journey.
You will need to be patient and stay committed to your treatment plan if you want your recovery to be successful.
Recovery from addiction is possible, but you must be open and willing to accept the available help. It's a difficult journey at times, but it can bring your life back on track--it did mine!
After I was diagnosed with an opioid use disorder in 2017, my life was in shambles. I had lost my job and most of my friends because of the drugs. My family thought they would never see me again—I disappeared for months to get a fix.
Of course, eventually, the day came when I couldn't find a fix. It was the last straw. I was done, broken, desperate and scared. I called the rehab at-home support team and told them I needed help. I knew it was time to quit using drugs once and for all.
The staff at my recovery program were great! They helped me through withdrawal, a complicated process with opioids like heroin or painkillers. When you suddenly stop taking these drugs, you can go through terrible symptoms like vomiting and sweating.
After recovering for a while, the staff helped me find sober housing to get back on my feet. I also attended a support group for people in recovery from addiction, which helped me stay on track and motivated throughout my recovery process.
I've been clean for over two years because of the help I received at the ASV!
My family is so happy that I am sober and can finally see the old me again.
Forever grateful.
Sam.
